My First Post

Hello!!
This is my first post on firstlumos. Enjoy!!

I learned knitting back in 2010, my first project was a black garter stitch scarf, aran weight, 120 cm long. I self taught myself to knit through books and online videos, youtube mostly. My love of knitting grows when I found an online knitting community, Ravelry (which I am pretty sure all of us knitters must be a member!). I was so amazed on how simple techniques of knit, purl, increases and decreases can be transformed into beautiful stitches, lacy, cable-y, textural pieces of garments. You can even wear your own creation, or simply give it away to people; friends, family, colleagues to share some love and support.

Here is my finished object of Hitofude Cardigan (designed by Hiroko Fukatsu) that I knitted in August 2016. “Hitofude” means a single brush stroke in Japanese. Believe it or not this was my first cardigan that I knitted. I usually knit lacy shawls; triangular or rectangular which sadly I do not use quite often. Therefore I start learning to knit wearable, using cotton/rayon yarn so I can wear it more often in humid, tropical country like Indonesia. Hitofude is my most used; everyday outer that I can pair up with trousers for casual look or long dresses for semi-formal occasion.

If you find me on Ravelry (my username is firstlumos), you see that I opened my own Ravelry Store as a contributor; knitting designer since October last year. I also make contributions in LoveKnitting(.com) as a designer, with a few similar designs as in Ravelry. So far I have only few (less than 10 designs) that I published online. Although I am not the most productive newbie designer ever, I looove every design that I created so far. You can simply see that I mostly attracted to lace knitting, and my favorite theme is nature. My favorite design so far is my very first design I have ever created; Butterfly Square Shawl. I made it as a commission work to a customer in 2014, it was actually a lacy baby blanket. My customer wanted a baby blanket for baby shower occasion. She wanted a baby blanket just like the one that Prince George of Cambridge had as his christening shawl; but for a girl. So I just simply chose a feminine stitch and my choice goes to lacy butterfly stitch. And voila there goes my first shawl/baby blanket design just created! I was so amazed on how public reacted to my first shawl design that I set up as free download in Ravelry a year ago. It was accessed and downloaded over 1500 times in less than 24 hours! WOW! Thank you people I felt so overwhelmed.
